Hi i just gave the gmat on 18th may 2012. I am looking forward to apply in any of the reputed B schools. But i am really disappointed by my score.
GMAT score 660. Quant 48 Verbal 32.
This was my first attempt.
I have done my graduation in PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY (INDUSTRIAL/MECHANICAL Engg.) from Punjab Engg. College Chandigarh, India).
I currently have 4 years of work experience and will be 5 years when in join MBA in fall 2013.
I am currently working for Maruti Suzuki India Limited(India's No. 1 4 wheel automobile company) as a Maruti Suzuki After Sales Support Representative.
Currently looking after the customer complaint handing, resolution of technical problems, manpower training for both Domestic and Exports Dealers/Distributors of Maruti Suzuki.
I am working with a team of 4 members and i also have the responsibility of Training the freshers.
Kindly tell me what chances do i have to get thru some of the good management colleges ??
What is the next step??? What collgs to apply??

I agree, I think your GMAT score will be a challenge in applying to top programs. As you are aware, you from an overrepresented demographic in the MBA applicant pool that outperforms on the test. To have even a shot at the top programs, I’d recommend getting a 700 overall score and 80%+ on both your verbal and quantitative percentages. That would simply open the door at the top programs. Without that, I think you’d be a long shot.
In terms of your background, your competitiveness will also rely on the quality of your leadership experience in and out of work. Can you draw upon “moments” when you truly led: influenced individuals and organizations, drove results, took initiative?
In targeting suitable schools, a good place to start would be to compile a list of programs that have a mean or median GMAT score close to yours. You should be competitive here. My rule of thumb is that if your GMAT score falls within the middle 80% range at a school, you have a shot. Otherwise, it could be an uphill battle.
I tend to avoid telling candidates where to apply simply because it’s an intensely personal choice that you should make. You will know best which program has:
• Resources that best meets your career needs
• A culture that resonates with your personal style
• Students whom you respect, can relate to, and have fun with!
I encourage all applicants to pound the pavement and talk to students and alumni from your target programs to find the best fit. It’s not easy, I know, but the effort will be worth it in the end, I assure you.
