Hi Reader,

I have just finished my GMAT today and got score of 580 Q47 & V24.

Am looking for opinion on to retake or go ahead and apply and try my luck.

As everyone looks for, ambitions are always for the best colleges. So is mine, but am only looking for places where a good ROI in terms of fees to placements is noticed.

My Profile in brief:
Indian/M/28
Work Exp 5 years in Oct 15.
2 years of IT in TCS
since Nov 2012 till date business. taking care of a region for total operations & management.

College GPA 2.7, if that is the correct translation, but i did not do well in the academics during those days. University of Mumbai, if that helps :)

School years 10 & 12 have been 79% each.

Have a strong co circular profile, have been active in sports & organizational activities in school & college. Have been vital part of the college committees & have the paper work to support the claim .

With this brief, pl share your thoughts on the course of action. As of now i have not made up my mind either way.

PS: Giving the exam today, after i finished Quant i had almost given up thinking i screwed it up. But it turns out the VERBAL was the devil. My avg verbal score has been 34-31 varying in the pre tests. The quant score is as expected.

Hi GautamRPS,

From your post, it doesn't sound like you have any specific Business Schools in mind. Ignoring your GMAT score for a moment, have you thought about WHY you want an MBA? Is there a particular career path you want to be on or a particular company that you want to work for? If you can get specific about YOUR "wants", then you can find the right Program(s) that match and research what it would take to put together a strong application for those Programs.

Once you can name some Schools, then you'll have a better idea about whether your GMAT score is competitive or not. You can also pose these questions to the Admissions Experts in their Forum:

Hi Rich,

Thank you for taking out time to read & respond to my post.

Yes you are correct to notice that i have not specified any specific colleges or MBA program. Its because am open to inputs. Have spoken to Alumni of some of the colleges to get inputs. My main criteria to look for such a program where my kind of profile can meet others from similar walks in life. More about networking.
Then post the program, a job in any country will do fine, with 2 things in mind, 1 loan repayment & 2 travelling. I do a job like a process consultant, operations consultation etc. Where i can work on client sites, for 6-10 month stints on providing a solution for their problems. Like a consultant.
Then maybe further 2-3 years down the line return back and get into business again. This detail i have still think on a lot.
For example: The Global Supply Chain Management program at Krannert business school , has a program which i like to attend.

Any inputs for me on any such program would be a huge help.

Also regarding my retake, i have decided to sit back for 1 week & then take a call. Will surely look for your inputs if things come to a retake.

Hi GautamRPS,

When it comes to individuals Programs/Schools, I don't know enough about any of them individually to offer any pointed advice. In that same way, I cannot really recommend any Schools to you because there are way too many details and I don't know you (and all of the variables that will go into the School that impact YOUR decisions). Since you've named one in particular (The Global Supply Chain Management program at Krannert Business School), you have the capacity to reach out, gather information, etc. to determine whether your current GMAT score is strong-enough for you to apply. So I'd suggest that you start there.
