Hi Everyone, this questions is related to GMAT in general. Can GMAT alter the percentile-score distribution retrospectively?

Ex: Person A scores 705 in GMAT focus on 30th Nov, 2023, which is roughly 98% according to the percentile table provided on the website. Theoretically, can this score(of 705) be downgraded to say 96 or 95 percentile, in future(say 2024 mid), if lot of students score higher than 705 in GMAT focus?
Hi Arm007,

Yes. We expect GMAC to update the percentiles every year.

Thanks AjiteshArun . Have you ever seen a drastic change in percentile y-o-y, for the same score?

While your scores will not change over time, your percentile ranking may because rankings are recalculated every year using exam data from the prior three years. - MBA website

Fair to say something similar would apply to the Focus as well.

Hi Arm007,

No, not really, although it does depend on what we mean by drastic. Keep in mind that:

1. Total scores don't move as much as sectional scores
2. Percentiles are calculated from data for the last 3 years, so the latest year has only limited impact on percentiles

GMAC doesn't have any real data for the Focus edition, so it'll be interesting to see what the percentile tables look like 3-4 years from now.

I would not EXPECT drastic changes unless some new methods of approaching GMAT Focus are discovered. The percentile GMAC built for GMAT Focus are based on 866,640 test results from 2017-2022.

GMAC currently expects 85-90 to be 99% or 100% on DI.

Their data must be based (primarily) on IR, but most test takers don't take IR too seriously. On the other hand, test takers now have a reason to try to max their DI scores.
