Hi GowriPrakash,

First off, a 690/Q48 is a fantastic Score, so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

Before we discuss the data in your ESR, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Thank you EMPOWERgmatRichC

1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week? -Although I had a bit of initial taste of GMAT in 2019 for few months, Studying a bit inconsistently over past 6 months (RC only over the past 3 months) 18 hours each week
2) What study materials have you used so far? - Manhattan Prep in the initial days, and Power Score CR and RC and GMAT Club over the past 4-5 months
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
GMAT PREP 1 - Didn't get a score, somehow messed up
GMAT PREP 2 - 710 ( Q49, V38 ), Nov 01 2020
GMAT PREP 3 - 700 ( Q49, V35 ), Nov 22 2020
GMAT PREP 4 - 670 ( Q49, V31 ), Nov 30 2020
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
Planning to apply for 2021, Yet to shortlist schools

Hi GowriPrakash,

Given how you were scoring on your official GMAC practice exams, I think 690 is a very solid score! Regarding whether to retake, it's important to know the average GMAT scores at your desired schools. I see that you still don't have that list. Do you plan to start researching schools in the near future?

Hi GowriPrakash,

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, your 3 CAT score results - along with your Official Score - show that you essentially performed the same each time (about 690 +/- a few points). You handle certain aspects of the GMAT consistently well, but you also leave yourself open to making certain types of mistakes.

If you don't know which Schools you plan to apply to yet, then that's fine, BUT until you have that list, we won't be able to assess the strength of your OVERALL profile (relative to what those Schools will likely see in their respective Applicant pools) and whether you should retake the GMAT or not. As such, I suggest that you take a few days to put together an initial list of Schools/Programs that you might want to apply to, then discuss your profile with the Admissions Experts in the forum I linked to in my prior post. If you choose to retest, then we can discuss your ESR in more detail and how best to approach the next phase of your studies.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
