Hi, I am a CA and have cleared 2 levels of CFA and currently working as a management consultant with previous work experience at best FMCG companies of India. I sat for GMAT and scored 600. What would be the best schools for me to apply for and my conversion chances? Would be glad if someone could help me out.

600 or 605? Which GMAT version did you take?

Hi Prattyush949,

We are not very clear about your GMAT score. Besides, how many years of experience do you have and what geographies are you looking to target? These are important questions one needs to answer.

We suggest that you watch the following video:

Please leave an inquiry for a free strategy session; don't worry about enrollment etc; even if we are able to give you some good insights, we will be happy.

All the best!

Hi Prattyush949,

You have a strong professional and academic foundation — being a CA with CFA Level II cleared, combined with management consulting experience and prior roles at top FMCG companies, already puts you in a competitive bracket for many good global MBA programs. Your profile clearly signals analytical strength, business exposure, and breadth across industries.

Admissions committees are accustomed to seeing both GMAT (classic) and GMAT Focus scores at this time.

Here’s how to think about it:

If your 600 is the classic GMAT, it roughly corresponds to a score of ~555–565 on GMAT Focus.
If your 600 is GMAT Focus, it roughly maps to a ~645–655 on the classic GMAT.

Schools do not penalize you for which version you took. They use the official GMAC concordance table to evaluate scores on a common scale.

Your conversion chances will depend heavily on how well you articulate leadership impact, client exposure, and career goals rather than just the score. That said, a GMAT retake to ~650+ would significantly expand your options and improve odds at more selective schools.

If you’d like, we can do a focused profile review to shortlist schools realistically and decide whether a retake is worth it. I'd be happy to help you plan next steps. GMAT scores around 600 are usually considered too low for the top 10-15 MBA programs, so consider aiming for programs around 15-25, but remember there are unusual cases - we've seen candidates admitted to top programs with mediocre scores, as you can see here:

Consider retaking the exam to improve your score, and feel free to contact us for help with selecting programs and writing your applications. Good luck!
