I think they are talking about averaging GMAT score during the application process. After a student is accepted, schools ususally use the highest score of the student to calculate median score for ranking. But most of the school claim that they only look at the highest score.

I have never heard of any b-schools averaging scores during the admissions process either. That's a law school thing with the LSAT.

Last time I looked (8+ months ago) MIT averaged your GMAT scores.

Unfortunately, I have heard that schools do prefer people who can attain certain score with the minimum number of tests taken. :(
