GMAT Self reported GPA incorrect

Question

Hey folks,

Leave it to me to post here until AFTER my gmat =) I have a bit of a problem, which I'm hoping someone can help.

I self reported my GPA wrong - much lower than in real life. Mainly because, in Ontario, we need an OMSAS table to convert our % to a GPA figure. The table they gave us was wrong...

Obviously, this is a self-reported score...so I could really put anything I want. But I'm a little worried....I've called GMAC and they've updated my score but my reports have already been sent to two schools....should I have them resent?

Or better yet...does the self-reported score even matter?

I don't think it matters for the school. I believe self-reported GPA is used only by GMAC for statistics sake and to correlate GMAT scores to GPA and show a nice steady trend.

Your schools will require a transcript from your University and will use that calculation/number.

however, this is only an opinion....

By the way, how did you do on the test?

Thanks for asking. I did mid 600's and that was all I'm after. Got my AWA today and while I thought I did miserably, I walked out with a 6...

Hi folks
is there any specific way to calculate the gpa based on the percentage. I secured a funky percentage of 65 in my undergraduate studies ( computer science engineering in India) could anyone please let me know how much my GPA would be

Moreover my high school and junior college percentages are 81 and 89 respectively Will the downward curve have impact on the application. Please advise

I need some advice. When I signed up for the GMAT I wasn't exactly sure what my undergrad GPA was and didn't think it really mattered, I figured it was just for stats. I probably would have remembered it if it was good but it wasn't. Anyway I thought it was a 2.7 and am living in London so that's what I registered, actual transcript is in filing cabinet in Chicago, so now it's months later and I just took the GMAT on the 6th of September. At the test center I confirmed my pre-populated info without really closely scrutinizing it again. In the beginning I arranged to send my scores to Booth/Darden/Kellogg/Ross. I found out I scored 720: Q50, V38. Not too bad, I wasn't thrilled with the V38 but that's life right. Anyway, a week later I received an email saying my score report was ready and linked me to it. When I got to my score report which also showed my AWA 5.0(also had mixed feelings on this) it showed my self reported GPA which I noticed was 2.7 instead of the 2.6 I had recently confirmed from my transcript. (it instantly hit me that my apps would contain two different GPAs - AHHHHHH - INSTANT HORRIBLE PANIC.)

So the question is: after working very hard, additional MS degree part time, 3 out of 5 yrs WE international, 720 GMAT, engineer/mgr working industrial construction internationally in the energy sector, I thought I could mitigate the 2.6 (BSEE from top 3 program) and get into a top school, did I just totally blow it at all the schools I sent this report to? I'm afraid they are going to think I'm dishonest (when really I'm just in idiot) and ding me on principle.

What do I do?

I have already updated my profile on the website and understand I can get a new report for myself that I can send in with my application but I'm not even really sure how I would do that.

I think you will be fine. Schools really only care about official transcripts. They may wonder why your real GPA is so much higher than your reported, but it seems like you have valid reason. I wouldn't stress it.

That's just it, what worries me is that the score report will show HIGHER than my transcript by a tenth, the report will show 2.7 the transcript will show 2.6. If it were the other way around I don't think I would be freaking out so much.

Hopefully it won't be an issue. More often than not the will only look at the official. If you are so worried I don't see the harm in either getting in contact with the school or resending them the GPA with an explanation and any official documentation you may have explaining the mix-up. That way its clear that it wasn't your fault.

+1 Kudos! I don't think it matters much either, they are more concern about what you submitted to the school and what your transcript says.

at the worse the adcom *might* ask you the descrepency but the official transcript will override whatever mistake you made on the gmat

What I see here is that it hardly matters if I have reported incorrect GPA, which I have!
I reported 6.1 on 10 point scale which was converted to 2.1/4 on the official score card.
My correct GPA is 6.4/10 which translates to 2.56/10 and looks much better than 2.1!
The problem is that my official transcript carries my score on 10 point scale, so ad com members who are used to seeing scores on 4 point scale would look at 2.1 and assume that to be true.

This is my assumption, is this true? And anyways should I resend my scores?
