Hi Magneto,

Your mock CAT scores reflect that you have a problem with your foundation. Remember, no building should be built without a solid foundation and if we do it, then the results are not great. I would suggest you to postpone your GMAT by a month, so that you get enough time for preparation.

You need to start with the basics again from any course you like.
Also, can you tell me the following:

1. Were you able to complete the sections on time?
2. Have you prepared an error log?

You can try and implement the following things in your approach and see if they work for you:

SC: Most of the questions are based on S-V agreement, Parallelism, Comparision and usage of certain words viz such as vs like, that vs whihc etc. Focus on these things while solving a problem.

CR: Pre-thinking is the key here. Read the question first and then the passage

RC: Try to make a passage map while you read. This will give you a directory of the passage and you would not have to guess.

Hi magneto,

When are you planning to apply to Business School?
Do you know what Schools you're planning to apply to?

The answers to these questions are important because they'll likely influence what you choose to do next. Given everything that you described, I think that you just have not put in enough study time yet to hit your goals (and you're probably not going to hit them by September 14th). Your Verbal skills are inconsistent right now and the pacing 'plan' that you described is not a good plan. All of these things CAN be 'fixed', but it will require more study time than you've allotted and likely some new resources.

Hi Rich

Although I was planning to apply in the 1st round for schools but going by your and other experts's advise, regardless of the schools that I am planning, a low 500 score (90% chances) on 14th will get me nowhere. So I might be putting myself up for failure and I think I surely would consider rescheduling but, if I were to reschedule it, a few questions that I really need help with are:

1. What things should I consider before choosing the next planned test date?
2. How many days gap would I need on the basis of my 2 tests so far and to get near 670 score or 700 (ideal case)?
3. What other materials can I use?
4. What key things should I incorporate in my new plan?

Thanks heaps.

HI magneto,

Many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) on their studies before they hit their 'peak' scores. Given the time that you spent already, I would suspect that 2 months of consistent, guided study time would probably be enough for you to hit your score goals. As an estimate, some time near the end of October would probably make sense. Or course, you also have to consider your application deadline(s) for Round 2 - how will taking the GMAT at this approximate time impact the other work that you'll have to do to complete your application(s)?

It might be that the materials that you have will be enough to help you to hit your goals, but we won't know for sure until you put in a bit more study time. I suggest that you continue to work as you have been for the next 1-2 weeks, then take another FULL-LENGTH CAT (including the Essay and IR sections). Once you have those scores, you should report back here. That score result will help to define whether you're still improving with the approach that you're using or if you have to adjust that approach (and possibly use some new resources).
