Hi GMAT Gurus
I am new to GMAT world and I am planning to give one if few weeks time.
So far, I have given few mock tests (from Kaplan and Barron's) and on
an average I score between 520 and 550. I am aiming at 600+. I am not
sure what study material I should refer to. From the previous posts I
could infer that people are divided between Princeton Review and ETS
Official Guide. I have seen Official Guide and to me that book is
tough; besides, it lacks detailed explanation for the questions. I came
across few sites on internet which claims to be the best like
https://www.800score.com and https://www.upstartraising.com I am not really sure on
what I should spend my hard-earned dollars either one of these sites or
a book?
BTW I borrowed Princeton review from my local library, but haven't
gone though it. On the other hand I found Barrons to be easy. I am
working so I do not have ample of time to cover all the books and the
sites. So I am looking for some thing which is most effective in short
span of time. I would really appreciate if somebody could show me the
right direction.
I think my week topic in verbal is reading comprehension. I am okay
with critical reasoning and to some extent okay with sentence
correction.

First, given your time constraint, there will not be any short term magic formula to get a 600+. Depending on how much effort you will put in in the next few weeks, you will definitely be able to cross 600+. Kaplan, for you information, is definitely harder than the actual test; you should add 50-100 to your final score. Barron, don't even rely on it. I would put it far away from you if I were you. Instead, download PP from https://www.mba.com and gauge your current skill level with that. It will be more accurate than the 2 softwares you tried.
I think one of the wisest things you can do is order a copy of the OG. It is a must. I do not see how you can say that the OG explanations are not detailed because IMO, it is one of the books with the most detailed explanations that you will find. Should you need more explanations, you can always ask this forum or do a keyword search and you will find the answers that you seek. The next good thing would be to buy PR2005 with CD. I believe PR 2005 to be a very good and accurate gauge of your performance. Except for a minor glitches, it has a very representative pool of GMAT quality question type and it would not be a waste of your money.
In such a short time frame, remember to practice CD tests or paper tests under timed condition . It is key to stamina building and it will be more representative of your potential exam score.
