Hi aayybaby.

TTP has an accelerated way of going through the quant portion and there are things one can do to use verbal portion in an accelerated fashion as well. So, if you feel that you need to work on certain areas of the GMAT only, you could use TTP to efficiently do so.

At the same time, going from 640 to 720 is a fairly substantial task. So, you may need to do more than you mentioned to achieve your score goal.

Meanwhile, for some tips on how to improve in verbal, see the following post and video.

GMAT Study Strategy That Doesn't Include TTP? [#permalink]

Hi aayybaby
At the outset, I know its a sense of disappointment in the gut when one goes through this. Rightly so !
But dust this off soon and get back on track!
Keep your eyes on the goal. There is no problem that cannot be fixed.

I am Devmitra and I have been delivering on Quants for a good time now.
Strategy and planning comes later. First thing to be at now is "Introspection".
What went wrong? Do you have an ESR? Can you share here or Pm?
What were your official mock test results from mba.com? Did you get that analysed critically and precisely across timing, sequence of errors, biggest category of error and mapped it back to your error-log?
Have you been practicing a lot of questions on Quant every day(that is >15-18)? Does this also include unofficial questions at length?

Where exactly is the gap is the first thing to know! Everything else will then follow accordingly.
Avoid any random study and create a strategic outlook towards the whole process in terms of what are the right questions to practice, what resources must I use for the same, how do I plan according to the weightage of the topics tested, how to add flexibility to the plan to fix the gaps as you analyze, when to take the official mock(plan in advance and map back) and then hone your test taking skills!
All of this has to very well planned and executed to breach the Q49 mark !

Let me know of the inputs I asked and then let me help you plan around that.

Looking forward to help you :)

I get it - TTP is great and all. But, does anyone have a great strategy for getting 720+ on GMAT that doesn't include it?

I just took the official GMAT and disappointedly got a 640 (Q43, V34), ran out of time on last quant and last 3-4 verbal questions. Honestly, thought I would've done way better so it's really disappointing to see that I received the same score as I received on the mock 2 months ago. It feels like all this studying was worthless. (I used a combination of a Udemy course, Manhattan books, PowerScore Books, and OG questions - been studying intensely for past 3 months)

I need to reassess my studying strategy and don't want to have to pay or go through all of TTP as I'm sure there's more efficient means of practice that I can use based on where I at. My weakest area is definitely verbal (RC and CR) with word problems/DS for quant.

Any advice? Also, what time do you recommend to retake the exam?

Hi aayybaby

To score 700+ on GMAT, the most important thing to keep in mind is to follow a structured approach. The key is to follow the right sequence of study for both verbal and quant. In addition, I would also recommend that you focus on learning the right methodologies for solving the different question types as opposed to just practicing questions. This should help!

It’s always better to spare some more time on your preparation until you are ready instead of missing out on your dream colleges/ b-schools in hurry. Only when you score consistently around your target score in the official mocks, you are good to go!

And regarding how to proceed further and the study strategy, I think it would be better if we can get in touch over a call and discuss the same as I would like to ask a few questions about your current preparation strategy, your weak areas and your approach of solving questions. You can use the below link to get in touch with me. Don’t hesitate to reach out!
