There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
My friend told me that when she took the GMAT her proctor clicked through a few screens on her computer and screwed up the break in between the essay section and the quant section such that the clock started running while she was away from her computer. When she got back and started the section she found that 8 minutes had already elapsed. She told the proctor and the proctor was basically like "not my problem." She ended up getting a 670 but thinks she could've scored a 700 if she had those extra minutes. Does she have any recourse here?
Definitely contact GMAC - this proctor needs to be educated/removed. Your friend should report him/her. No need to have this experience repeated for someone else.
