You're right. If we know S1+S2, the range is less than the median. It doesn't matter whether set S consists of the same value elements or different value elements. The range of set S will be between 0 and 18, whereas the median will be between 21 and 39. Therefore, the median will always be greater than the range.

I hope it helped :).

Need some clarifications in the first question :

If set S consists of positive integers, is the median of set S larger than its range?

All elements of set S are smaller than 40.
All elements of set S are larger than 20.

The answer says both the statements combined are sufficient. However if all the elements are equal then this doesn't hold true right ?

Even if the elements are between 21 and 39 they can all be equal in which case the range will be zero and less than the median. Can someone explain this please ?

I don't know what I was smoking. Thanks :)

bb,

I gave this test today, but I am surprised to see that my responses to Q25 and Q37 are not listed. The time is blank in the review section:

Question 25 Correct 1 -
Question 37 Correct 1 -

Are these experimental questions?

This is the first time I see something like this. If you didn't mess with the time controls, then it's a bug. Sorry about that. We'll investigate the issue.

For question # 33 - Wow! Tricky!! Time and again - I need to remind myself to READ the question twice. All along while answering this question, I kept thinking - "What crap is this?" I guess "crap" got in between my eyes and the PC!

I did the same thing with Q37. I just interchanged the speeds for Andrew & Stephen! Even after not seeing my answer among the choices, I did not go back to the question to look up the speeds!
