Well, I see three possibilities: the topic itself is interesting, it provides a chance to see "who" is applying to Duke, and perhaps meet some interesting folk.

Sustainability is a huge topic, addressed directly in many of the materials I received from the schools that I was researching. It is an interesting subject in that it cuts both ways, i.e, it simultaneously serves to limit the scope of free enterprise while providing new business opportunities to the clever. Further, it seems to me that it can't hurt to test drive the "meet the school" (or interview) process, and, since there is likely to be some cross-over with the schools you target, meet the pool of applicants.

Duke has been sending emails about this very religiously. Although I am not applying to Duke, I also felt tempted to check this event out. But there are just too many info sessions and visits that I have to take care of .. and I am already running out of time with the essays. So, I should pass on this.

How much focus do you think there will be on the Duke MBA? I care for the environment and all...but I do have to maximize what little time I have between now and applications.

I guess almost no focus on the MBA program specifically. But there will be representatives from the MBA program to answer your questions (If you have any). Other than that, I think that caring for the environment is something that we can afford only after the fall admission process is over. :D

Erasing this from my calendar as we speak. I suppose I'll have to glean info about Duke solely from informational interviews with alumni & students. Won't have time to visit NC before my app :(

mba2010, if you aren't visiting Duke, then I would suggest that you at least attend an info-session. Duke is coming to the MBA Tour on 9th Sep and also has an info-session in SF on 22 Oct. If you are applying to Duke, then I guess you should attend these events. You don't want them to question your interest.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm out of town for the Oct 22 event (may hop a flight down to NC from DC depending on my work schedule) but I should be able to make the one on Sunday. Didn't know about the Sunday event.

I almost decided to go... but now I'm wavering again... sigh...
