anybody has idea abt these 2? :(
For the 1st one I had the following calculation:

1st day : $0.10
2nd day : (0.10 + 0.10) = .20 (Since doubling comes to less than .30)
3rd day : (0.20 + .30) = .50 (Since doubling would take it to .40)
4th day : (.50 + .30 ) = .80


do they mean that ONLY the additional fine should be compared to .30 instead of the whole ?
1st day : .10
2nd day: .20
3rd day : .20 + .20(this is less than .30) hence : .40
4th day: .40 + .30 = .70.

Looks like this is what it meant.

I got thru. the 2nd one as follows:

single letter labels : 26

Two letter labels : 26(same letters twice) + 26P2

Three letter labels : 26(same letters thrice) + 26P3 + 1950(this one I calculated by logic) where total comes to 18278.

Does anybody knows a shorter method for this calculation?

Hi - this is the way i did it :

1 day = 0.1
2 day = 0.2
3 day = 0.4 (since 0.2<0.3)
4 day = 0.7

I guess its only reading comprehension and not a lot of math.

Question 1

1st Day: .10 + either double or add .30 whichever is less, so

1st day: .10 2nd day: .20(cheapter to double) 3rd day: .40(cheapter to double) 4th day (cheapter to add .30) = .70 instead of .80 if u doubled.

So answer is .70, remember at 3rd day you're at .40. So if you add .30 you get .70, if you double you get .80 => add .30 is cheapter

Question 2

stock 1: X , stock 2: XX, stock3: XXX places for letters, and we have 26 letters available and they can repeat (this is key here)

so for X we have 26, for XX we have 26*26, for XXX we have 26*26*26

together we have 26+676+17576 = 18,278
