Hi guys,
I have been reading posts and discussions here since a long time.
I come from a commerce background, so I'm novice in Quant as well as Verbal.
Last week I gave my first attempt and got a score of 450 (Q31 V20).
The mocks I had given were:
GMATprep #1: 550 (I had just started studying, finished my concepts but didn't practice much)
GMATprep #2: 600
GMATprep #3: 630
GMATprep #4: 650 (Few repeat questions)
Kaplan Test #1: 500
Kaplan Test #2: 550
Kaplan Test #3: 580
Kaplan Test #4: 520
Kaplan Test #5: 600
Even though I haven't done well in my mocks; I have never got a score as low as 450.
My quant score was always between 42-48. Though my Verbal has always been on the lower side, never crossing 30.
But on my exam I got Q31 V20.
I don't have problems with AWA and IR, but yes I do get very tensed during the exam when I know that I'm not doing well which might affect my confidence a lot.
I'm aiming for a score above 650.
Can you help me realize where I'm going wrong and get me to 650+?

I think that one of your problem is that, you are taking too many practice tests and giving very little time for preparation. How frequently have you been taking practice tests? You need to understand that there are very few tests that can simulate the actual test. The real test is computer adaptive so the difficulty level varies according to your performance. It is quite likely that the actual test be entirely different from any of the practice tests you take. So you cannot completely rely on practice tests.
Now, are you preparing for the test on your own or have you joined coaching for it. Since you come from a background that excludes both maths and quant, it makes a lot of sense to take help from the experts. Join a proper coaching class for the test, and spend a lot of time practicing questions. When you have completed a significant portion of the syllabus, take a practice test. Do not take more than one practice test in a period of 10 days and practice problems consistently. Spend at least two hours everyday practicing questions and spend more time on weekends. If you have doubts, you can always post questions on GMAT club.
To improve your verbal skills, read novels as you go. Read newspaper daily. This will improve your reading skills and you will be able to read RCs faster.

Hey, thanks a lot for your reply. I think you've got it spot on. I have this habit of doing a lot of tests instead of practicing. I feel that I'd learn as I write more tests, which I now realize was a wrong approach. I'll take your word for it and practice more. Along with that, I'd also read a lot more than I already do. I'm quite impatient so I avoid reading books but I'll improve on that front.
I want to reach a stage that whichever question is thrown at me, I should have the capacity to at least try to get closer to the answer. For me the approach is more important than the end result and hopefully I'll jump from 450 to ...
