from the given statement we know that:
a --- b = 18
c --- d = 8
and we are looking for b --- d (distance between b and d)
statement 1
c --- a = c --- b, which means that c is inbetween a and b
so lets draw a number line:
-----|-----|-----|---------
-----a-----c----b---------
so a to c = 9 and c to b = 9
we know that c --- d = 8 which means that it has to be either between a and c or c and b. Not suff...
statement 2
this statement alone does not help solve the question...Not suff....

from st. 2 my first hunch was that d was between a and c, with this inmind:
-----|---|---|-----|--------- from this number line, i got b to d = 17
-----a---d--c-----b---------
answer C...

Its could be
A--------------C--------------D--B: BD = 1
or
A--D------------C----------------B: BD = 17
or
B--------------C--------------D--A: BD = 17
or
B--D------------C----------------A: BD = 1
INSUFF
St2: Clearly INSUFF
Combined:
Last two cases of statement 1 are eliminated we get
A--------------C--------------D--B: BD = 1
or
A--D------------C----------------B: BD = 17
Still INSUFF
Am I doing something wrong????
