I solved this problem by backsolving. Does anyone have a more efficient method of attach.

Had to get through the wording.
X= amount she earns each month.
Y=Fraction of X that she doesn't save.
Z=fraction of X that she Does save.
x=y+z. since the amount she saved is 3* the amount she doesnt spend each month we have 3y=12z. 12z b/c she works 12 months and saves z 12 times in a year.
So y=4z.
x=4z+z x=5z now just solve for z x/5=z or 1/5 of x is equal to z.

I dunno on test day though, i mightve been caught up in the wording. took me bout 3 min to do this =(
