trahul,

if you are taking gmat in a month, you will probably get more bang for your buck by focusing on verbal, and less math, as you can make a lot of gains with a V score of 33, don't you think?

what would a 42Q / 42V score turn out to be? probably a 700 no?

I would tend to disagree with the previous poster. With one month remaining, one should try to fine tune the math portion. 2 weeks of intense preparation on DS, arithmetic, geometry, word problems etc. and you should be able to be in the 90% percentile in math.

Verbal requires a lot more preparation. You cant do much with RC, i would say if anything focus on sentence correction. You can break SC down as a math equation most times.

Arv,

when you are at 42 aren't you basically at the medium-hard level, no? so everything above that is hard, or really hard. 33V is more at the cusp of mediumm and edium/easy? so as far as diminishing returns go, wouldn't you think you would experience them quicker in Q and not V? (granted RC takes years to develop but SC can be sharpened in a month)

anyway i have noticed on these boards that so many people forget the GMAT is that it is a standardized test. it follows a normal distribution. therefore it is not possible for everyone to get 90% percentile no matter how much some people study it just isn't going to be possible; it is going to be out of the ability of 90% of the test takers. it is unfortunate reality; that is not to say one shouldn't try... but i see alot of people beating themselves up over nonsense...i know the math seems easy, but it is only possible for the top 9.9% to score 90% and above. if 91% of test takers scored a 690 (or whatever 90% is) then the scale changes and 690 is now=89%

whatever you do trahul good luck... if you are going to focus on verbal manhattan SC is a good book it has helped me bump up my V score.

I wouldnt say it is out of the ability of 90% of the test takers. I think it is about who wants it most and who is willing to prepare more than others. A 90% score may be out of the ability of some people taking gmat..even with months of intense prep, but I think it is an acheivable score if one prepares enough. The problem is a lot of people who take the GMAT do not prepare adequately.

terp,

i guess you are somewhat right... it just boggles my mind that there would be a significant number of people willing to plunk $250 down on a test that can in some ways affect your life very drastically and not put in prep time. especially since the test, prima facie, seems very difficult and daunting.

i was always pretty adept at math. i thought i was hot **** just coming off an A in calculus when i started my gmat prep the end of this semester.. i popped open the OG and I knew right away that I was in for a long road over the next two months!

but anyway, if all of the sudden everyone preps their brains out and scores well on the gmat, the scale will just change. that's what standardized tests are about. you can't have more than 10% at the 90th percentile.

Dear All,

Thanks for your valuable comments. I somewhat seem to agree with anonymousegmat that i need to increase my verbal score as well. I will be focussing on fine tuning my DS and verbal for the next 15 days and will give another practice test by 1st july. Let me see how well i scale.

I have also brought challenges for math which i fell is wonderful. This is just my recommendation for all those who want to score 45+ in quant.

Thanks
