i think, answer shud be C

can anyone clarify why is p=13 and c=27 incorrect?

if we take both statements together, that is the ONLY solution.

You are right chintanpurohit

I see my mistake in reading the question.

I read it like this...

Of the 60 animals 40 are either pig or cows....so 20 is cows or pigs respectively
so
60 = 40 cows + 20 pigs
or
60 = 20 cows + 40 pigs

However I think it should be read as
60 = cows + pigs + other animals and
cows + pigs = 40.

With that 13 and 27 is the only combination when stmt 1 and 2 are both considered.

OA is C.

Wouldn't you call this as ambiguous question? I think this should be a Verbal CR question :)

I got C

# of pigs =P
# of Cows = 2p+1 ( more than twice of pigs)

2p+1+p=40
p=13
C=17

p cannot be any # but for 13 because if P is 14, then C has to be 29 and this cannot be true since 14+29> 40

I think the question is right and answer is C.
