(1) the equation actually means that
\(r(b+r)>w(b+w)\)
\(rb+r^2-bw-w^2>0\)
\(b(r-w)-(r^2-w^2)>0\)
\(b(r-w)-(r-w)(r+w)>0\)
\((r-w)(b+r+w)>0\)
we know that \(b+r+w\) cannot be negative, hence we are left with
\(r-w>0\)
which ,means that probability of pulling out red marbles is higher than that of white marbles
(2) clearly, not sufficient since
\(b-w>r\)
and similarly, \(b-r>w\)
any other ways to solve? thanks!
