his speed = Q/3 cans per min
total cans he can fill = (45 x Q/3) cans

Total gallons he can fill = (45 x Q/3) cans / ( R )cans/gallon = 15Q/R gallons..OA E

I use this method for the "variable in answer" question type:

Pick numbers

Q=3
so cans/min = 1
R=5

so 45 mins/5gallons = 9 gallons

Now plug Q and R in for each answer choice. The answer that gives you 9 is the correct choice.

use equation is not slow and more accurate.
