Hi guys,
Just wanted to share my experience using GMAX's online math course. Since I'm a history grad who hasn't taken a math test for 15 years, I was looking for a course that would start with the basics and also give me a shot at some of the tougher questions.
I am very satisfied with GMAX. The course outline is structured very logically: only after taking the test do you really, really see the need for the emphasis on number properties (the first two lessons). The learning environment, a video of a whiteboard in a classroom, is familiar and intuitive. Unlike in school, however, you can replay that tricky probability question five times until you've finally understood it! To maximize learning, the course brings in practice questions, using the tougher material from the Official Guide, immediately after a concept has been introduced. There's also a good mixture of PS and DS questions. For non-quants, one of the interesting aspects of preparing for this test is how DS starts out being your enemy (seems kinds weird) and ends up being your friend (can almost always be narrowed down to two answer choices).
The math tutor, Aner, has a friendly manner and a very practical way of explaining the issues, moving smoothly from the basics to surprisingly advanced concepts without the usual lurching sensation I used to experience in high school math classes. This gets to the real achievement of the course. If it was just test prep, I would still be happy. However, I not only got a reasonable score on the GMAT (top quartile) but also feel that I've made a lasting improvement to my math, which will pay off in school and business.
