I've been studying fairly consistently for the last few weeks and have made what I thought to be some good progress, but recently took a major step back on my CAT.

After doing only a refresher course on basic math concepts, I took my first CAT and scored reasonably well as a starting point.

CAT 1 - GMAC: 640, Q39/V39

I did a about a week to a week and a half of diligent studying using EmpowerGMAT's online course, then took another CAT

CAT 2 - GMAC: 690, Q47/V38, IR 8

Great improvement in the quant section and I was certainly feeling pretty great about the progress. I started shifting turning some of my focus to verbal, specifically sentence correction. Perhaps at the expense of some of the Quant section. Then I took my third CAT a week later:

CAT 3 - GMAC: 590, Q36/V35, IR 5

To say this was disheartening is an understatement. I certainly felt rushed through the quant section and did indeed have to guess on a number of questions so I knew I didn't do particularly well, but this certainly feels pretty brutal. Did I just get lucky on the first and especially the second? The day of the week and time of day taken was almost identical to the last test I took, and I was just as well rested as I was the last time.

I'm scheduled to take the GMAT in exactly two weeks and considering pushing it back another month. I know 4 weeks to study is short but I appeared to be making good progress at the time. Any suggestions?

Hi gdawli,

Welcome to GMATCLUB! I think your third test was probably not a true reflection as it seems you just had a bad day in your Mock. However if you feel you need help with refreshing some core concepts, You can try out the TTP course as it is phenomenal and covers the entire syllabus really well. Plus it has great reviews on GMATCLUB. I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practice tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

Lastly I would also encourage you to purchase the GMATPREP QP 1 for some great additional practice. Here is a link that will help you with your decision.

Hope this helps. All the best.
