Hi,
I have pinpointed my why I am taking more time to solve verbal questions. The problem is that I blank out while reading the First sentence in Sentence Correction, the question stem in CR and the first paragraph in RC. I have to reread it two three times before I can grasp what is being said.
In CR, I cant even understand the questions many time (strengthen, weaken, flaw etc) and have to reread the question many times to get what is being asked. Many times it is taking upto 1 minute just to understand the question. Many times i read the whole para and still dont know what i read and have to start reading again. I dont know why my mind goes totally blank. I cant understand what is going wrong. Why I cant get my focus right?
In SC, I have similar problems.
In RC, it happens in first paragraph. Then once I get hold of the topic of the paragraph, i read the rest easily unless my attention wavers. Same issue with understanding the question stem as in CR.
Its not that I let my mind wander off. I try to focus and understand but most times I can't.
How to ensure that I get the meaning(comprehend) the first time I read the question?

May be helpful to work on absorbing one sentence at a time (versus absorbing the whole paragraph/passage as a block). Perhaps work with a study buddy to see how they approach the different question types. The way I may approach a bold faced is different from an assumption question, for example.

It sounds as if you have some kind of psychological block against understanding what you're reading. You could try asking yourself what's keeping you from understanding it the first time you read it or what you have against understanding it.
