Hi guys,
I'm looking for a good prep course to take and wanted to get your advice. I've been studying on and off for the GMATs for about a year, using mostly the
MGMAT 8 books along with the OG and verbal and quant books. I'll study intensively for a couple weeks and then get distracted by work. I started studying again about a month ago, but haven't been able to maintain a regular study schedule. Originally my plan was to study 3+ hours/weekday after work for 4-6 weeks, but I've been having a hard time staying on track. I dismissed the idea of taking a prep course until recently.
The last practice test I took was the
MGMAT CAT and got a 650 (44Q, 35V). My goal is a 750 and I plan on taking it only once because I'd like to apply ASAP since some of the schools I'm looking at are on rolling admissions.
My top choice for prep course is
MGMAT but the dates don't work well for me. I want to take the GMAT by early - mid Nov, but the
MGMAT course doesn't end until late Nov. The deadline for one of the schools I'm applying for is 2 weeks after the last
MGMAT class. I'm afraid that won't give me enough time. Also since I've been using their books anyways, would the stuff I learn in class be redundant from what I've read in the books?
The only two options I have for prep courses that work within my time frame are Kaplan and Manhattan Review. I'd like to take a classroom course as opposed to online course. However my concern is that since my goal is a 750, neither class will be of much help getting me over the 700 mark if they focus on more of the basics. It doesn't look like they focus as much on the individual math components like the
MGMAT does with it's seperate books. My concern with Kaplan is that since there is an advanced course available, the regular course may not go in depth into the 700+ strategies (they don't have any advanced courses in my city for the rest of this year).
Should I go with Kaplan (even though I've missed the first class already), Manhattan Review, or
MGMAT? Is the Kaplan regular course or Manhattan Review helpful in breaking into the 700s? Would it reflect poorly on my application if I took the test only 2 weeks prior to submitting my application? This would be the case if I were to take the
MGMAT course. Either that or I would have to take my official GMAT only halfway into the course.
I have looked up reviews on all three courses on this forum and did not see much on Manhattan review other than a couple threads and they didn't really advice on whether it's good for more advanced strategies. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
