Hi guys,
I need your help in choosing which B schools i should apply to. I want to persuit a Master's in business in General management or Operations management. My profile in brief is mentioned below.
Male 24 from India with Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from reputed National Institute of Technology.
Gmat Score - 690 (Q - 50 V - 31)
GPA - 3.0
I have an experiece of 30 months(2.5 yrs) now and by next year around 42 months (3.5 yrs) in core design.
I am working for a reputed Commercial vehicle company in Product development for the past 2.5 yrs. I am moving to a reputed American MNC in some time in a similar job profile.
I have been consitently good in academics in school and above average in college.
I was awarded a research fellowship by the department of Science & technology, Govt of India during my college for an innovative project.
I have a research paper published at an International Mech conference.
I have received an A+ in all my subjects in my school final exam of class 12 (Higher secondary)
Apart from acads, i have participated/captained and won at National level football tournaments at School n college level.
Also, i was the best cadet from my batallion of the National Cadet corps. ( An organisation similar to scouts at school level in the US).
I am confused as to which schools I should apply and where i will have a better chance of admission. I do not want to spend all my savings in applying to a dozen colleges. So kindly direct me how is my profile and based on this what colleges i should apply to. Both In and out of US.
Also, what is the chance of getting any scholarships in these colleges. I would prefer a college providing me scholarship to study as my finances are limited.
Hello,
You must identify the 7/8 schools, and later narrow it down to 5, there is no need to apply to dozens of international schools. You must choose schools on the basis of factors such as budget, your area of preference, core competence of school etc. There are so many schools in the mentioned areas (in US) that it is very difficult to give 2/3 schools.
Broadly speaking, with your current score, you may have a shot at schools ranking 10-15 and you will be competitive for US schools between (15-20), you may target schools ranked between 20-30 for some scholarship.
I would suggest you to utilize the time and research on the schools.
If you are targeting schools of US , your GMAT is on the lower side considering you are representing the most competitive pool - indian engineering pool. I would suggest you to retake test and score 730+, your verbal score is concerning. Your score might be Ok ( not competitive ) for one year programs of indian IIMs (other then IIM-A), XLRI and GreatLakes.
Most of the scholarships are merit based and need based, i can not comment on second aspect, but to qualify for decent scholarship, you should have a better GMAT score. I do not see your GMAT - 690 - enough to attract merit scholarship at any international b-schools.
Hope this helps
