Hello guys,

I want to score 650 to get into my preferred masters program. To achieve this aim, I bought the Manhattan Prep books and the Official Guides. I prepared for the test for ten weeks, in which I worked through the complete Manhattan books and did all the available material. The results of my mock tests were:
GMAT1 Q36 V33 580 (before I started learning) 08/11
MREP1 Q42 V31 590 (after I studied the math parts) 11/16
MREP2 Q46 V32 640 11/24
MREP3 Q45 V34 650 12/12
MREP4 Q45 V36 670 (after completing all Manhattan books) 12/9
GMAT2 Q49 V45 760 (I don't know how) 12/14
MREP5 Q44 V38 680 12/28

Yesterday (12/21) I took the exam and felt good while doing it. At the end I scored 580 Q38 V33 and was very disappointed. My question for you guys is how long should I wait before taking the exam again? Did I do something wrong while studying for the exam? Please let me know if you have any advice. The application deadline for my target university is 05/31/2018.

Thanks in advance

Hey,

Really sorry for the disappointing score.
I suggest you order an ESR first. This will show the areas where you faltered. You can then take a decision on what preparation you have to put in to improve the score. Seeing your scores, I guess, you can definitely score better.

Hi Maurice,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. If you can answer a few questions, then we should be able to figure this out:

When you took your CATs:
1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
2) Did you take them at home?
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as when you plan to take your Official GMAT?
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?
5) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions BEFORE (re: in an online forum or in a practice set)?

Given that you seem to have some time before you need your GMAT score to be in place, I think you should wait a bit (maybe 1-2 months) before taking the exam again. Try to get a few more GMATPrep tests done this time around.
