Great score Aravind :)

Quote:

SC:
Surprisingly , i was good at SC.Since, in my childhood,i used to learn some grammar. Though i forgot them, i took around 20-30 days to finish one grammar book.
Good thing is that i had natural interest towards Grammar.I did not learn grammar for the sake of learning .I did a systematic approach..

I will follow up with this later.
Looking forward to know bit more about your SC preparation.....

Congrats once again and best of luck for your applications.

Hi Kumaran,
To start with , read the fundamental blocks of grammar. ie, phrase, clause, gerund, relative pronoun ,active voice ,passive voice, verb tense,Modifiers etc.,
You can read them from PrincetonReview or Kaplan verbal foundations or Manhattan SC
After this, start recognizing the role of a word in every sentence that you encounter..
These are very basic.
Although the questions are not on this basic stuff, identification of the role of word is nevertheless important.

Next step is the big step... OG questions...
I believe that GMAT tested grammar is 30% rules and 70% logic <application of rules/using mind>
There are certain patterns that GMAT is going to test and OG is the best source to look for them.

For example :
What are the difference between these sentences?

1)The experiment results indicate that the litmus paper turned blue and the chemical tested is an acid
2)The experiment results indicate that the litmus paper turned blue and the Sun rises in the east
3)The experiment results indicate that the litmus paper turned blue and that the chemical tested is an acid

Once you identify the differences ,you can indirectly understand what the gmat test maker is testing on a particular question..
Let me tell you the differences

1)The experiment results indicate that the litmus paper turned blue and the chemical tested is an acid
This sentence talks about the implications of an experiment?
What are the implications?
a)litmus paper turned blue

is 'the chemical tested is an acid' an implication of the experiment? No! it is just a fact...
and this fact is not derived from the implication.. Why? the second clause is missing 'that'
This is a common parallelism that is tested in GMAT.

if your reverse the position of the clauses you will understand that the second one is just a fact
The chemical tested is an acid and the experiment results indicate that the litmus paper turned blue.

2)The experiment results indicate that the litmus paper turned blue and the Sun rises in the east
This sentence is very much similar to the first one in that the experiment results indicate only one thing-litmus paper turned blue.
Reverse this and it will be easy..
The sun rises in the east and the experiment results indicate that the litmus paper turned blue.
'the sun rises ...' clause is just a fact

3)The experiment results indicate that the litmus paper turned blue and that the chemical tested is an acid
Well this is the final sentence. This shows that there are TWO IMPLICATIONS of the experiment unlike the first two which give only ONE IMPLICATIon
So the third sentence gives the two implications of the experiment
a) litmus paper turned blue
b) chemical tested is an acid.

Why it is indicating 2 things? because of the word 'that' -used in the second clause..
Well this is a common example.

there could be exceptions. Depending on the context of the sentence, one should judge if the author meant multiple implications or a single one.
If the GMAT is testing the multiple implications then when you scan the answer choices ,you will find the inclusion of 'that' in the answer choices..
If GMAT is not testing this concept, you will not find this difference in answers, just ignore this and start looking for other errors.

Hope this helps. Even though SC needs knowledge of grammar, there is atleast 50% logic..
As an when i find time,i will try to compile a list of such things and help this forum..

My appreciations!!

Now where are you heading??
Hey Pavle,
I am evaluating my options. I prefer one year MBA and Obviously I want to be in the top 10 schools
and my GMAT score is atleast equal to the mean level scores for most of the top schools.(i am confident that i can even improve my score by developing reading skills,But i won't do it right now)
Right now looking forward to INSEAD,ISB and singapore schools. Also considering MIT and some canadian schools.
You guys have to throw some light for my applications..
