Got a good sign from a top consulting firm

Hey consulting guys,
I just got a email a few days ago from a top consulting firm. Email says something like this:" I am a right person who shapes the firm.." It also recommends me apply to a specific department. Do you receive the same messages? I don't think they sent out to only me, otherwises I got the offer without this invitation. And do you want to practise a case interview by telephone? - Kurten

I think the big recruiters regularly go through resume books put together by business schools. I didn't attend any consulting firm information sessions and I got an invitation from one of the big 3 for a small private dinner. All the firms definitely send out plenty of emails encouraging people to apply, so unless it's an invitation to an activity where they limit attendance and are expending money and manpower, it's just a standard recruiting tool.

Oh, I thought you were asking because they contacted you out of the blue. If you've have recruiting contacts with them, you should have a good idea as to where you stand with them.

I didn't go to any events and didn't join the management consulting group this fall. Somehow I still got invited to the final recruiting function for some firms prior to the application deadline. I'd love to say that it's because I'm special, but common sense just says that just isn't true (but not saying it isn't for you). Turns out that most people with consulting experience and a good resume get calls for closed list events.

I also got a similar email from a firm that asked me to apply for a specific group. It was pretty interesting, because that group was competing with the generalist pool.
