Is it possible? Sure, I guess anything is possible and you'd probably have a "decent chance" at bottom ranked schools if your stats line up.

Should you rush and apply? I'd say no. Unless there's an undelayable emergency to get an MBA, I'd recommend you delay your application to really think about which MBA program (and why), properly prepare for your application (i.e. that it reflects the best possible application you could put forward) and improve the chance of you getting into a better ranked school, as you may be selling yourself short by rushing to apply in round 3.

ill elborate a bit more.

Goals: top 50 schools..not picky. I care more about alumni than the actual rankings or starting salaries

Reason: I had a few gaps in employment and it is tough to compete for certain jobs that require higher than bachelors

Demographic: I'm in Texas so prefer those schools but I'm not constrained

GMAT: I know if I put in a few weeks I can pull off a 700 but no more

Timeline: if I don't get fall 2018 admission ill have waisted one more year thx

Yea for R2 at top schools will be tough but for more regional programs particularly some of the ones in Texas you could potentially sneak in with a strong GMAT and a solid
App. The big guys will be tough for R3 however.

Race?
Gender?
Quant? Verbal?
UG subjects?
UG GPA?

All the more important for you to shoot higher, since with your employment gaps, you would want your MBA to make a big impact.
In either case, you should decide which school, AFTER you have had admissions.
Strongly suggest you to get Consulting help to shape your stories better.

Send your resume for a detailed profile eval.

Round 3 is historically only really meant for her diverse candidates. The acceptance rate for round 3 is significantly lower for top 50 schools. Do yourself a favor and take the time to put together a really solid GMAT because your grades are terrible and you need it. Honestly you do. Just focus on that instead of trying to apply in round 3. You be better off going for round one for insead, IMD, HEC. My recommendation would be for you to focus on the GMAT and apply to European schools for J term. If you're not open to European schools then just played work on between now and round one with the GMAT and applications. Don't sabotage yourself by giving yourself insufficient time to increase your score by 100 points and do a great job on those applications fly give yourself 3 months for those, more if you work a lot of hours.

Just started process of applying and doing gmat stuff. Im hoping its still not too late to apply to top 50 schools for fall 2018

gpa 2.9
undergrad business top 10 finance programs
gmat around 600 on practice tests

thanks

Indeed it is too late. Round 3 is a poor option. Take your time to ace the GMAT and go for 2019.

thanks everyone for their replies..I do have a diverse background, both in terms of ethnicity and my work experience working with small business and lenders overseas. I'm definitely not the typical IB or consulting applicant as I spent the last two years trying to build two businesses.

I'll heed your advice about the GMAT but considering I want to stay in Texas, I hope it doesn't hurt to apply to 1-2 schools (particularly UT Austin, Texas A&M, and SMU) if the GMAT does come out on the expected end.

thanks!
