So I am going to be tutoring someone on the GMAT, but the program he is applying to does not publish GMAT stats... they say the GRE minimum is
530V 580Q. I could not find an average score range... (this is a program at NYU!)
how does 530V 580Q on the GRE relate to GMAT in terms of scaled scores and percentiles? I know they are two very different tests... but I want to be able to give this guy a realistic estimate of where he needs to be.
All I could find on the net vis a vis score distributions for GRE was this from 800 score:
96-99th percentile 720
79-90th percentile 630
61-75th percentile 570
37-50th percentile 500
there seems to be alot of wiggle room their?! do i tell this guy he should shoot for a 600-650 range?

580 in quants will definitely translate to something like q27-30 in GMAT. 530V will be a little higher in GMAT though. say. v31-33.
I say this because I find GRE math so elementary compared to GMAT.
But the verbals are very different. GRE concentrates a lot on vocablury. GMAT concentrates on grammar and reasoning. Smart people can score more in GMAT.
Just my personal opinion.

I took the GRE a couple years ago. My scores were a perfect 800 quant, and a measly 500 in verbal.
I would agree that the quant in GMAT is much tougher (in practice GMAT I got just 46) and verbal is way easier (in practice GMAT I got 40).
