Dear struggling working professionals,
Every day we get emails from students, describing their struggles with GMAT prep amidst a busy professional and personal life.
Shilpi, a stroke neurologist and a mother of two little kids (catch a glimpse of them in her interview), began her GMAT prep during the height of the COVID pandemic. Between managing her hours at the hospital and parenting two children, Shilpi was burning the midnight oil trying to join the 700 club.
Number of working hours - At least 60 – on-call day and night
Number of kids – 2Number of days till her next attempt -16Now that I have set the context for this brilliant story, let’s dive into it!
Shilpi’s story is one that highlights the importance of support and the power of a well-structured, data-driven plan during GMAT prep, especially if you are juggling hectic work and home life. Her 16-day journey from a 650 to a 720 serves as an inspiration to every single GMAT student.
However, when she scored a 650 in her attempt in May of 2021, she realized she needed a structured, guided plan and so she reached out to
e-GMAT support for help. With just two weeks to go to her next attempt, time was of the essence.
I realised that my score was not a score that was due to a bad day- there was a knowledge gap.
Shilpi’s ESR-After identifying Shilpi’s key areas of weakness- SC and Algebra- Shilpi spent a majority of her 16 days internalising
e-GMAT’s Meaning Based Approach to conquer SC and learning the process skills necessary to excel at Algebra. She also spent the time mastering the application of her CR, RC and Quant skills, to ensure that she was test ready by June.
Creating a path to improvement –In Shilpi’s own words, the SC course
‘gave her a boost from the basics’ Shilpi’s Course Stats after working on the plan- The course was structured so that ‘the e-GMAT course knows exactly what your brain is thinking…if I had a doubt, the next slide would cover that same doubt’. The amazing thing? This improvement didn’t require Shilpi to solve thousands of questions. The strategic, qualitative approach recommended meant that she used just a third of her question pool -260 questions-to get to a 720! Image- questions done

But the most inspiring part of Shilpi’s story is her sheer determination and the support system that enabled her to reach a 720-
No matter how tired I was (after a long day of work) – I had no choice; I had to prioritize my GMAT prep over everything else.
With the support of her husband, daughters and the experts at
e-GMAT, Shilpi was able to improve a massive
70 points! Going into the weekend, take a moment to remember why you took the first step down the GMAT path and remind yourself why it was worth it. Take a moment to sign up for our free trial
