Hi All,
Let me share my story. I am an 30-yr old Indian working on an H1-B visa in San Fransisco Bay Area, US right now. My company has filed my PERM application and lawyers estimate that I'll be able to file my I-140 and I-485 (through cross-chargeability) by end of this year. If everything goes fine, I'll be able to secure my Green Card in 2024 (again, thanks to cross-chargeability
) which gives me the freedom to pursue whatever I'd like to do in future.
I applied for some full-time MBA programs last year and got into Wharton. If I decide to pursue Wharton, I'll have to get back on an F-1 visa, abandoning my GC process for two years and hopefully starting again after I graduate. As my partner's work visa also finishes next year, she'll move on a dependent visa, not allowing her to work till her GC-EAD gets approved, which is estimated to be 2 years after my graduation. This means she'll be out of relevant employment for around 3 years. My partner doesn't prefer this situation but is supportive even if we make this decision.
My future career goals are to work in Tech VC and Entrepreneurship space. Even though a Wharton MBA could add immense value to my career in future (esp. moving from being a software dev to VC/Entrepreneur), I am reconsidering going there now at the cost of losing 3-4 more years to the H1-B/GC process. I feel that this could be a lifetime opportunity that I'm missing.
1. Would like to know if any other folks have been in the same boat and what they think about trading 3-4 years of more visa related struggles for a Wharton MBA?
2. Can I try to defer my admission and pursue an MBA later using a GC-EAD next year or in 2 years (not sure if they'll allow)?
3. Will a full-time MBA or an executive MBA be a good option at 32yrs when I have a Green Card?
Thank you in Advance.
