According to researchers, after a month-long diet of high-protein, low-carb foods, twenty women had lost weight. The women, middle-aged residents had food provided for 3 meals a day for one month, had unrestricted access to the meals and 3 daily snacks and their exercise was monitored to ensure consistency across the sample. They lost an average of 4 pounds during the month-long diet. The diet can be said to have caused the weight loss, since _____________________.

Which of the following would, if true, most logically complete the argument?

A. a diet high in protein keeps you fuller than a lower protein diet Inorrect

dont know high in protein features, but know high-protein, low-carb foods helps weight loss

B. a diet high in carbs keeps you fuller than a lower carb diet Incorrect

it contradicts with argument

C. a diet high in carbs keeps you fuller than a diet high in protein Incorrect

it oppose argument

D. the foods available to the women were higher in calories than what they usually ate Correct

already know high-protein helps weight loss

E. the mandatory exercise was the main contributor to the weight loss Incorrect

contradicts with argument

You were on the right track, winterschool, but option A is the better choice. In option D, it compares what the women ate on the diet with what they ate before, and we don't know anything about the calorie count they ate before.

Check out the official explanation in the comments for more, and we look forward to you trying the next question, which is posted now!
