In case you are falling short ot time what is advisable ??
1. Just make a quick guess of the answers & some how complete the exam

or

2. Do not guess & make sure that you answer correctly, but in this case you will not be able to complete the exam.

In short, what i would like to know, is what affect's your scoring more ??
guessing(assuming all gusses are wrong) & completing the exam VS leaving the section/exam in complete. (do not guess)

what should one do, if he/she faces the above situation..

First of all, you should never force yourself into this situation. Do NOT take a GMAT test unless you know how to manage time.

Secondly, if you are in this situation, by whatever reason, don't panic. Leaving a question unanswered has the same effect as making a wrong choice. You should try to eliminate at least a few choices, and make an educated guess from what are left. This way you have a much higher likelihood to get more questions right.

Is there a guideline for timing purposes wherein we try to have landmarks. Within the first 15 minutes, I need to be at question # 12. The next 15 minutes, I need to be on question 22 etc...


Is there something out there (may not be the best guideline) but something to work off of...

I usually break my time into four quarters. In general I make sure I finish half of the questions in half of the time. For example for math I'd finish about 10 questions in 20 minutes, then 20 questions in 40 minutes, 30 questions in 60 minutes and the last seven questions in the last 15 minutes. For Verbal you need a have a little faster pace. So in 35 minutes you should finish the first 20 questions. It's a general guidline for yourself. You may spend a little more time on one question and you would get the time back from another question. Just remember don't spend more then three minutes on any one question. If you can't figure a question out, eliminate some options and make a guess and go on.
