Hi
SAHIL619 hope you are doing well
You did not mention your current function at HPCL, but I am assuming it is most likely operations management. With your three years of experience, if you have realized that you want to pivot to finance, it is certainly going to take a lot of work on your end. Yes, the CFA will definitely show your motivation because it is widely regarded as the gold standard in investment finance and is valued in areas such as asset management, equity research, investment banking, private equity, and risk management.
If you are looking to use a one-year MBA program to make a switch to finance, it will be very, very difficult due to the lack of an internship, in which case, ideally, you should try to make this functional switch before you apply for an MBA. If you are not willing to do this or resign from your job, then you need to settle for some other post MBA roles that are more probable with your current skill set (leadership programs, consulting etc).
You can also switch to finance if you go with a two-year MBA program in India after giving the CAT. But if you target longer-duration programs outside—for example, in the USA—the challenge of switching to finance will remain, and the schools will expect you to have made efforts to switch pre-MBA, even if the role is not purely finance. Something that moves you in a direction closer, such as a business finance or working capital analysis role in a small company/startup, would be better.

"I plan to pursue an MBA in Finance in August 2026 and would like to utilize the time until then to enhance and strengthen my profile. Currently, I am working at HPCL (a PSU) with three years of experience. I would appreciate any suggestions on skills, certifications, or activities that would help make my application stand out.
"Should CFA help me or not?"
Thank you."
