Waitlist w/o interview. Oy. ...after getting a scholarship to Anderson, I'm not quite sure how to proceed. Anyone else in a similar situation? Feel free to PM me.

I would expect the odds of getting a scholarship from Haas after being waitlisted are low if not non-existent. Anyone have thoughts on the weight of a degree from Haas vs Anderson?

Denied with interview. I must say I was surprised, but not unexpected as my interviewer could not have liked the school less.

Biggest piece of advice I would give to R3 and R4 applicants is to interview on campus if possible. He talked about how he didn't interact with any students besides people from his native country (he moved to the US after graduating and I am american), how he just fell into his job and didn't really care for it, and just generally a negative person. If you interview on campus, you are getting someone who is prescreened and actually can represent you well, as well as represent his or her school well.

Good luck to R3 and R4 and congrats to everyone else that got in!

LT, I read several posts from last year about the same situation. It seems the odds of making it off the WL is not very high and either case it will take a long time. I would recommend accepting Anderson and at the same time stay on the WL. That way, if you do make it off the Haas WL, you have the option to decide what to do. Congrats on Anderson.

Sorry to hear about your ding. I agree with you and think it is always a good idea to visit the school if you get a chance. Although all my dings were after interviews and campus visits!

Overall I had a good impression of most schools, except Michigan Ross, where the school was impressive, but my interviewer expected cookie cutter answers, like I want to be CEO or I want to be a consultant after I finish. For some reason my answers were not good enough and he would not let go until I 'cookie-cuttered' it ( I will write a more detailed review after I get my final result). But, I read of mostly great interview experiences with alums, so I guess what I am saying is that, it could go either way, we don't really control who we interview with, but overall as TommyTrojan said, chances of having a bad interview on campus is lower.

Hey FunTime!

Thanks for your insight. I'm flip-flopping on whether I should get back into interview mode or just accept an offer. Not the worst problem by far, but definitely something to think about. and thanks!!

First off, congrats on Anderson. I agree with FunTime. Unless there are other schools you are thinking of that are still in the mix, I would accept Anderson and put down the deposit but continue to pursue Haas and the wait list by setting up an interview or doing whatever they allow you to do during this time (I'm not sure about the specific Haas waitlist rules). If you end up at Anderson, it's still a win! Go celebrate!!

Just found this in the WL FAQs for all the R2 WLs:

When can I expect to receive an update about my waitlist status, and when will all waitlist decisions be finalized?

We will review the waitlist periodically throughout the admissions cycle and provide updates regarding admissions status in late March, early May, and early June. A candidate can expect to receive an update on their admissions status after the subsequent application round’s notification deadline has passed. For example, a Round Two applicant placed on the waitlist would receive an update on their admissions status in early May, after the Round Three notification deadline has passed.

All final admissions decisions will be communicated by early August. We discourage applicants from calling or emailing frequently to inquire about one’s status on the waitlist.

...just to spice things up

Denied after interview. I feel a little disheartened because I traveled from India to Berkeley to check out the campus and interview. I knew that given my 18 months of experience, it was a long shot so I wanted to do everything I could. Anyway, it was not to be I guess. Good luck to R3 and R4 applicants and congratulations to the R2 guys who made it past the interview.

What does it mean when someone is waitlisted w/out an interview? On the one hand it signals that your application was/is being strongly considered, on the other hand, why the heck didn't they invite us to interview if they considered our apps that closely? Mixed signals.

Also, which would you guys rather be, WL w/ interview or without?

It's difficult to interpret which is better: WL with or without interview. On the one hand, those who were given interviews probably had a stronger "written application." Either way, the application process is laced with ambiguities so it's best not to over-analyze, which is easier said than done. I would recommend working on backup plans, such as other applications or other career options, as WL are notoriously torturous and disappointing. Best of luck!
