Sorry for not really keeping this updated. I just completed week 7 2 more weeks to go. The class is a tad bit generic and geared really towards high 600's range. I think I just got lucky that basically everyone in the class is an ambitious student and everyone is gunning for the 700+.

The best part about the class besides the instructor - Sean Murphy is absolutely awesome - are the office hours. 30 minutes a week sounds like nothing but some of the instructors are soooo good and the different perspectives are great especially if your focusing on the same areas weak after weak. Tony and Horse were some of the best 30 minute sessions and really just helped a lot.

I finally took a diagnostic today to gauge my progress. In the mean time I took 3 GMATCLUB tests just to stay fresh, did the OGV of CR and did basically every SC question I could over and over again.

I was pressed for time in the math which keeps happening with MGMAT but overall Q 48 V 39 710
I am pretty happy with the progress especially the amount of verbal errors in CR and RC which I know will be easy for me to eliminate. I'm thinking about starting LSAT material, a MGMAT instructor recommended it so I think its worth checking out.

Overall:
Critical Reasoning 14 8 6 0 57% 1:30 1:51 630 680
500 - 600 5 4 1 80% 1:19 1:35
600 - 700 4 2 2 50% 1:26 1:56
700 - 800 5 2 3 40% 1:59 1:53
Reading Comprehension 12 8 4 0 67% 2:27 2:35 700 700
600 - 700 6 4 2 67% 1:36 2:39
700 - 800 6 4 2 67% 3:19 2:30
Sentence Correction 15 10 5 0 67% 1:24 1:27 700 730
600 - 700 6 5 1 83% 1:23 1:11
700 - 800 9 5 4 56% 1:24 1:32

Problem Solving 22 14 8 0 64% 1:53 2:35 710 710
500 - 600 1 1 0 100% 0:22 NA
600 - 700 7 4 3 57% 1:32 3:18
700 - 800 14 9 5 64% 2:13 2:09
Data Sufficiency 15 9 6 0 60% 1:27 2:19 680 750
300 - 500 1 1 0 100% 0:33 NA
500 - 600 1 1 0 100% 1:36 NA
600 - 700 1 1 0 100% 2:28 NA
700 - 800 12 6 6 50% 1:24 2:19

I'm thinking my true math is a bit higher, I just really do not like MGMAT questions. So I'm hoping I will be around Q50-Q49 at the worst for the real test. I have about 4 or 5 more weeks until I take the real thing again so I'm hoping to really minimize the RC CR errors and keep working on the SC. Gunning for a 740+ so I guess we will see what happens.

Sorry for the long post, if anyone has any advice on anything that has worked in Verbal please.

Best,

Run

Hey Guys,

Today I just took the GMAT Prep 1 and got a Q49 V40 720. Overall I am pretty happy with the performance but I did leave a lot on the table. I have 7 days till I take the real test and really would appreciate any advice on how best to spend this time. With the math, I got 13 wrong including 4 of the first 9 (lots of stupid errors). When I finished I thought I had a 51, so hopefully if I minimize the errors I can get a 50. With the verbal I got 3 wrong on RC all on the same passage that I just panicked on so this is clearly something I can work on. 5 of my errors were on SC which I thought was my strongest section after the months of prep I have put into it. CR I got 2 wrong which is expected but hoping to bump that down to 0-1.

The goal is 760 I know 720 is a long way away so any advice you guys could give to get me there would be much appreciated. I just graduated and I have nothing to do except study for the next 7 days.

thank you bakfed. People on gmatclub are just sooo nice this is truly such a great resource.

Today I took the free knewton test, mostly to get 100 dollars. I got a 710 which I was kind of happy about given the fact that I wasn't really trying guessing a lot to finish early and get it over. What was surprising was my breakdown. Q51 V34. I got 6 Qs wrong but realistically if I took the time (I finished 21M early) that should be down to 3. It kind of felt like the test ran out of hard questions after the first 10. The verbal was 9 wrong which I thought was a pretty harsh scale since I got 10 wrong on gmatprep and got a V40.

If anyone has taken the knewton test can you testify to a similar experience with the easy quant and overly difficult score on verbal?

I just graduated from college today will be moving out tomorrow and test on tuesday. Any last minute tips would be great.

Thanks guys,

Run

Run,
I have found the function f(x) stuff to be confusing as well. To lessen my own confusion, I usually just substitute another letter such as y for the f(x).

If you found these comments helpful, please give kudos. (only need a few more)
Thanks,

Good luck!

I guess it's a little late for advice on tackling SC... but who knows. My "strategy" for that crap was to first forget everything I knew about writing sentences that sounded nice and focussed on the rules. I treated SC from more of a Quant perspective than a Verbal one. You start to visualize the sentences as equations that are out of balance because of a comma here or a lack of parallelism there.

That's pretty broad advice but hey, if it doesn't help you maybe it will help someone else. Cheers!

Thanks for sharing your log with us. You seem to be taking a lot of prep CAT's. Has it helped you? Don't you get tired?

Decided to simulate tomorrow by taking a GMAT prep at the same time today. Overall Q49 V41 730. 8 Wrong on math which I was hoping would be enough to score higher than a 49 but I guess I can't seem to get into the 50's and 7 wrong on the verbal including the last two which I kind of got time squeezed. No wrong on RC which I guess I expect 3 wrong on CR and 4 wrong on SC

Overall I'm happy now with the rest of the day I'm going to review my errors and take it easy. I'm taking the test tomorrow at noon in herald square. Gonna get into the city leave my house around 10:50. I think I'm gonna eat a lot of pasta tonight and a lot of cereal and bananas tomorrow. I'm not sure If i want a redbull or 5 hour energy for before the verbal section I guess we will see.

If anyone can give advice on the optimal pre test food and waht not that would be really helpful.

Thanks guys

Run

O and btw I guess we will see if i found the cats useful tomorrow, althought I do think the cats were useful to keep you motivated and to get your endurance up because well its a tiring as hell test.
