Hi Everyone,
I just came back from the test center and got a 660, Q49, V32 Essay 5.5. Kind of happy kind of annoyed but overall a good experience. I decided to sign up for this as a test to see where I was at. I am planning on taking it again right before spring break (I'm in college), giving me about 5-6 more weeks of studying.
I am a college senior who wanted to get the GMAT out of the way. I have been studying concistently for about 4 and a half weeks now (3-4 hours a day). I have been looking at verbal for about 3 weeks. Thus far I have done the
Magoosh resources, taken a few
gmatclub tests, done 2
mgmat tests, done the
mgmat number properties book, and read the
mgmat SC book. I just started making index cards for the SC earlier this week.
I still have the OG 12, OG verbal OG Math, which I have not touched and fully intend to go through. In addition I have done the first 50 of the 1000 SC (65% hit rate).
My Scores on everything are as follows:
Test Correct Total % Correct Mean time msec Percentile
d01 26 45 58% 117.6440 sec 1250 55%
m01 26 37 70% 78.3324 sec 1250 48%
m02 28 37 76% 99.7365 sec 1250 49%
m03 28 37 76% 109.6997 sec 1250 69%

MGMAT TEST 2 640 43 35 80% 0M 6M
both times on the GMAT I ran out of time on the Math and kind of just bombed getting streaks of 7+ wrong on both. Verbal my real weakness is SC (its about 80+% of my errors), I am a native speaker and I can read quickly so the CR and RC I do fairly well on but I can improve at the 700+ level question area.
My actual test:
I got to the test center after getting lost and having a lot of difficulty finding parking. I left myself 30 minutes to spare and got there 5 minutes late. Essays went well I assume, took a few minutes during my break ate a banana (btw get fresh bananas because mine were disgusting), and started the quan.
First few questions were really easy, than I kept on getting really tricky DS question, I think it was close to 8 of them in a row. I had to guess on about 5 questions in total including one geometry of a cylinder that I thought i misread and just didn't get and 2 f(x) questions which should be easy but I just don't get. Wrapping up i was a little rushed with the last 4 or 5 and finished with under a minute to spare. I didnt really do anything with a timing strategy so it just kind of worked out. I thought the middle half towards the end was really difficult but I guess it should be so I didn't know. I took a break went out to the bathroom and drank half a redbull, about 5 minutes later I started the verbal.
With the verbal I didn't figure out anything wrong with the vast majority of SC's and they were taking me WAYYY to much time. Eventually I would narrow it down to 2 or 3 and after 2 minutes just pick one. ABout half way through I knew I was behind on time and really tried to spead up. I finished the last question with about 1 minute to go. Neither the RC or CR was that tough, CR had about 2 really tricky questions, one easy bold face, and RC had one MEGA long passage but all except for probably one or 2 questions were straight forward.
Takeaways:
1) Know where your going!!! I got lost, couldn't find parking and panicked which is never good.
2) Don't drink excessive amounts of liquids. At the end of the math I really had to pee, I drank a redbull during that break while peeing and subsequently I really had to pee during the verbal as well.
3) They wouldn't let me leave with time left on my essays (I finished both in about 20 minutes). They forced you to submit to get only the 8 minute break so do not plan on doing this.
4) Do not get flustered with the palm sensor thing, everytime you leave or come back into the test room they scan your palm. The process takes about a minute on entry and exit so factor that into your breaks. Additionally you get 1 minute to scan directions before each section before the next section starts so be aware of that.
5) Figure out how to unluck your belonging before you start. It may seem like nothing but when your flustered everything going smoothly is really important.
Now I plan on taking the test again probably in early march or late febuary (before spring break, san padre island, has anyone been??), and I will obviously be focussing on SC and all of verbal. I plan on going through the OG, OG Verbal and 1000SC and brutal SC. If anyone has any advice or anything PLEASE help me out. I will do a little bit of math take a few more
gmat club tests hopefully bring that up to a 50/51 but my main goal is the verbal. I know in the CR/RC realm I can become proficient but please any advice would be great.
Thanks so much,
Run
