Libraries still exist? Youd think theyd all be shut down now.

Re: Has anyone read Vault MBA Career Guides? [#permalink]
I have read it. The day-in-the-life segment for various industries is quite interesting.

I don't know about you - but my own knowledge of careers post MBA are quite limited because my own experience is heavily in the technology industry. This book looks interesting - the new 2007 edition is out (USD 12.95).

Has anyone read this or previous editions before? Think it makes sense to buy?

Yeah I have their books on Management consulting (called something like Top Management Consulting firms, or something) and also have their guides on Case interviews and finance interviews. The editions that I have are relatively old.

They are pretty good, though I am not sure whether the contents have really changed over the years.

Vault guides are good and so are the WetFeet guides.

I have that book. It is VERY light on content. You are better off readin the job specific books. They are meatier.

Rhyme - here it is:

Kidderek - at this point I just want to know what's out there, even if the information is light. If specific areas catch my eye, I might go into greater detail.

Looks like gmatclub site is acting up - I did not get any notification for my posts...

These are the jobs it covers

aerospace and defense
agriculture
brand management/consumer products
energy/oil and gas
fashion
financial services and insurance
gov't and politics
health care
hedge funds
high tech
human resources
investment banking
investment management
management consulting
manufacturing
media and entertainment
pharmaceuticals and biotech
real estate
sales and trading
technology consulting
telecommunications
transportation and airlines
venture capital

Each sector ranges from 4-12 pages

It has a lot of bs fillers such as ads and company directories.

If you're interested in say 3-4 of the above mentioned functions, I would suggest you just buy the individual book. i am reading the sales and trading book and there's much more there than the mba career bible. But then again at $13, I guess it can't hurt.
