Hello.

I am planning to apply to HKUST MBA for 2013 intake and now working on my resume and essay.

I have a quetion whether I should write "additional essay" or not.

I haven't worked for two years because I had to follow my husband who went to a MBA in Chicago.
I worked at a bank as a private wealth manager up until we move to Chicago.
( I am from south Korea)

I have prepared to apply to a MBA for two years.
(Learning English and accounitng, takign CFA, GMAT, and TOEFL, and participated in community work.)

So I will write about my efforts for the last two years and the reason I haven't worked for two years in the essays.
I think I can cover those story in the last essay topic "tell us about you as a person"
But I am not sure my story mentioned above is appropriate story for the topic.

The reason that I am not sure is that I read somewhere that I shouldn't write a eassy unneccessarily long because adcoms read hundreads of essays, so they don't want long essays.

Please, give me your thoughts.

You do need to tell them what you have been doing for the past two years and why. It is unique circumstances and you certainly have not sat around and done nothing. I would rather that you not write about this in one of the essays. I would recommend writing about this either in the additional information essay (which is usually no more than a paragraph) or write admissions an email and tell them of your circumstances this way. Admissions essay space is so limited that I would prefer that you use it for the appropriate purposes.
