Clearly, A is the correct answer.

B) for the misfortunes does not makes sense.
C) "After" adds an illogical series of event and a cause-relationship here, which is not required.
D) Being witnesses is an incorrect usage of Being.
E) The original sentence does not talk about how many witnesses were there. Hence, illogical.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to capitalize all the first letter of the last two answer choices..!
