HBS essay topics for fall 2008 are now available along with the deadlines. here is the link

1. What are your three most substantial accomplishments and why do you view them as such? (600-word limit)
2. What have you learned from a mistake? (400-word limit)
3. Please respond to three of the following (400-word limit each)
1. Discuss a defining experience in your leadership development. How did this experience highlight your strengths and weaknesses?
2. How have you experienced culture shock?
3. What would you like the MBA Admissions Board to know about your undergraduate academic experience?
4. What is your career vision and why is this choice meaningful to you?
5. What global issue is most important to you and why?
6. What else would you like the MBA Admissions Board to understand about you?
Joint degree applicants:
1. How do you expect the joint degree experience to benefit you on both a professional and a personal level? (400-word limit)

The following are repeats from last year:

Although last year 6 were required. I find interesting that they've added the culture shock and global issue option (IMHO it will let some applicants shine), and that they allow applicants to choose 3 among 6 options. As usual, the word limits are very low, specially when compared with Stanford's guideline of 3 - 4 pages, so be prepared to edit and edit.

So five essays required this year as opposed to six last year. I wonder why they chose to narrow the scope of applicants presentation. Is it because they are planning on inviting more people for an interview? Or is it because they are overwhelmed with all the reading they have to do? Or is there another reason?
. We had to write about that one last year too.
