Hey everyone, I plan on applying to HSW Deferred MBA programs and would love some insight into how competitive I might be, if at all... Thank you! My biggest concern is obviously my undergrad GPA.
BACKGROUND
Age: 24
Nationality: White
Sex: Male
ACADEMICS
Graduate School - Master degree
School: Top 15 university (Duke, Vanderbilt, UVA)
GPA: 3.92 (top 20% of class)
GMAT: 730
Undergrad - Finance degree
School: Random state school
Cumulative GPA: 3.15/4.00 - Major GPA: 3.90/4.00
WORK EXPERIENCE
Will be going into Investment Banking. Have a couple of IB/Private Equity internships at small firms. Nothing crazy here.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
-On my undergrad Alumni Council
-Selected as one of a few to be managers of student investment fund during my master in finance program
-light volunteering... local soup kitchen/nursing home type stuff
-couple of random clubs in undergrad...

Thanks for sharing! I understand your concern about your undergrad GPA. However, your strong grad school GPA and a solid GMAT should help boost your candidacy. As a white male targeting HBS/GSB/Wharton, you will want to score closer to the mid-700s on your GMAT. There is little room for error in such a major category. I am also not seeing tremendous extracurricular activities or leadership which will make it even harder for you.
In all honesty, I don't know if that is insurmountable. I appreciate the optimism of the previous poster but I think you are way better off gaining some solid work experience in IB (and get involve in a few outside of work initiatives) and then applying. Of course, you could apply now and then, if you don't get in, re-apply in a few years with little consequence. It's of course your call.
