Hii
I am very new to this ...I have a 7 year gap as I was preparing for UPSC civil services and was involved in my family business informally...I am interested in taking up MIM and willing to prepare for GMAT .. should I go ahead or I am already out of the race ..it’s better to have a clarity beforehand

Such a long gab definitely plays against you. This would be a very unusual situation and circumstance and it would require a carefully articulated story, a good performance in your undergrad, and a strong performance on the standardized test. Ideally, you would also get a job ASAP, so by the time you enter school you have some experience to distance yourself from this gap because even if you get a degree and the masters program takes you in, anyone looking at your resume would be wondering about the gap and not willing to take the risk hiring an unusual candidate, so I would recommend to get a job ASAP.

Hi,

Most MIM applicants have 0-2 years of experience. A 7-year gap after your undergrad degree is something which will raise a question, as admission committees do not like to see any gaps in your resume. The average age of the class profile is usually around 23 years. Given the above, I would not recommend pursuing an MiM.

Hi Karu94,

The MiM generally prefers younger candidates; as your age and gap will both raise questions, we do not recommend the MiM; working for a couple of years and following it up with an MBA may also not be straightforward but will still be a better option than what you are considering in this moment.

All the best!

655 would be for the Focus Edition score, and 700 would be for the classic GMAT. It’s almost the same.

You’re putting together a well-rounded and impressive profile that has the core elements HEC Paris looks for. A CGPA of 9.03 shows strong academic performance, and being a university topper with academic excellence scholarships backs that up even more. Your GMAT mock range of 720 to 730 is excellent and, if maintained in the official test, would place you comfortably within the competitive range for top MiM programs like HEC.

Your leadership experience stands out. Serving as Vice President of the Student Council and leading 30 peers across 20+ events shows initiative, organization, and people skills. Being the head speaker of the innovation club adds a layer of thought leadership that’s great for your story. These experiences will translate well into your application if you can connect them clearly to your motivation for pursuing a MiM and how they’ve shaped your outlook.

Professionally, you’re still early in your journey, which is expected at the MiM level. The internship at a cosmetics firm gives you some business context, and your part-time work with an advertising company adds flavor and variety. You may want to bring out specific, outcome-driven contributions in those roles to show impact, even if they were short-term.

Your extracurriculars are unique and personal. Eight years of classical Indian dance and teaching yoga show long-term commitment, discipline, and a strong personal identity. Your ability to speak five languages, including French, is another great advantage, especially for a program based in France.

Overall, you’re in a very good position. Focus on maintaining your GMAT score, Profile building, telling a cohesive story in your SOP/essays, and clearly connecting your experiences to your goals.

For a more detailed analysis and guidance tailored to your goals, UniAdvise offers a free 30-minute consultation call to help you plan your next steps. We’ll support you with CV enhancement, profile building, and crafting a standout SOP that reflects your unique strengths.

Can Anyone Tell Me That
If I use the free score report option to send my GMAT scores to 5 schools right after the test, but apply 2–3 years later, will those schools still have my score in their system, or will I need to resend (and repay) at that time?

Hey guys, I am applying for MiM at HEC Paris this year, And I was wondering if I should directly apply to HEC or apply through Join a school in France. ESCP is also one of my target schools. I don’t have an excellent accedemic background, my gpa is 7.34 but I have good entrepreneurship experience, involved in 2 startups till now. my GMAT mock scores are around 635-645.
