Thanks for the additional info. I think that it is crucial for you to re-take the GMAT. While it is possible to be admitted to one of the better marketing programs with a 550 your chances of doing so are remote. Just getting into the 600s would give you a significantly better shot at most of the NEF schools.

If you want to apply immediately, you can apply to a few schools now as you prepare for the GMAT, and apply to a few schools early next year in one of the later rounds.

Have you considered MS Marketing programs?

Hi Hjort,

I did think of doing an MS in Marketing but many people tell me that it is more difficult to get a job with an MS than with an MBA.
Thus i thought of opting for an MBA.

As for the GMAT, i am not getting dates before January 2006 and because of personal commitments i will not be able to give it tell the end of February. Is it too late to take the exam in March and still be able to go for the fall 2006 semester.

I was hoping not to waste this year(2005-06). Isn't there anything else i can do to get into a decent, if not good universities.

Meenal.

Hi,

First look at your EASDL risks

The two most salient are the "A" and "S" factors. You must demonstrate how you can minimize these two factors for the schools you apply to.

Next, let's look at the Big 6 components of your admit file and what you can do with them in the next few months:

Essays- variable- you need to write extraordinary essays
GMAT- fixed
Interview variable- prepare for outstanding interviews
LOR- unknown but let's assume you still have time to obtain great letters
Undergraduate Record/Coursework- essentially fixed- you have little time to complete any additional courses
Work Experience - essentially fixed

If you max out the remaining "variable" components and thereby address the academic and social communication risks you have a shot at some of the more selective schools.

Specialized marketing programs need not be a dead end if you plan carefully. Take a look at the Rochester MSBA which can be used as a the first year of the MBA program.
