avi, given your career goals, NYU is a no-brainer. Among the others, I will go with Darden or Duke. Berkeley is extremely difficult to get into. Ignore that marketing guy from Haas. Kryzak has been asking me to apply there as well and I have no clue about K.

So, there... my 2 cents.

I said Duke. I would say you want to hedge you bets so Duke or Darden are the best. NYU, Kellogg, and Berkeley are all going to be harder and you are better to spread your risk out a little more.

Remember R2 is going to be more difficult than R1 at most schools...even if they dont admit that if you search out stats it does support that R1 is the easiest round.

Avi I don't remember from your posts, but did you visit Darden already, show them some love? I gather that's really important, more so perhaps than for other schools. If you did, by all means apply to Darden. Great program. But I have to say, of your potential list, I don't think any of them will be "easy" to get into. I do not mean specifically for you, of course, I am merely speaking in general terms. I'd go for Darden and NYU.

I voted for Darden (shocker). I'll just say simply that everyone I know who has every had contact with Darden has been extremely pleased with their experience. This includes informational receptions, school visits, contacts with adcoms and everything else. Gather some more information and see what you think. I'm confident that regardless of your point of contact, you'll find that Darden has a warm and welcoming community feel.

I will agree that if you decide to apply to Darden, a personal touch goes a long way. So try to visit the school and tell about your encounters with Darden students and alums in your essays. The adcoms here really do look to bring in people who value the community experience.

Thanks for the responses folks.. this means a lot from me...

HBS.. that was a really nice article you posted.. but I am loopy.. so for me a situation that offers the most risk.. I take that.. part of my adrenaline junkie issue that I need to sort out..

Now with ur votes, I will settle down with the schools and start cranking some essays again...

River I am jealous of you.. man.no more essays to worry about..

nervous ..thanks for the vote of confidence for my 'fit'... people who live in Los Angeles tend to go crazy.. I am one of them.. ..

OUCH! See if I talk to you again, NC.

For finance, NYU is a no brainer, and the big city life fits you better, Avi, from what I know of you. I don't know enough about Darden and Duke to say if they're great at finance stuff, but it'll be a big small town vs big town comparison (which is one reason I didn't consider those two schools, not because they're not good schools, but because I want to live very close or inside a big city).

Kellogg would be a great choice too, as their finance program is underrated (shadowed by GSB and Kellogg's own marketing program). But as much as I want you to apply to Haas (which I actually think is a good cultural fit for you, take my word on that :P ) if you're applying in R2 to "spread the risk", everyone else is right, Haas is as hard or harder to get into than some of the Top 5 schools. I think only Stanford, Columbia, and Harvard had lower acceptance rates than Haas last year.

But yeah, if you do decide to do Haas, let me know, I think I know the school pretty well by now.

Good luck all the best. Stern hasn't gotten much love this year. Several people from here got in there last year.

NYU pretty much requires you visit and talk to students and alums...there is an essay on your efforts. I know johnnyx9 and 3underscore both attend and are still kicking around here at times, you should drop them a PM. Both seem like great guys who have been very helpful to some other applicants.

I am keen to apply to NYU as well, however its not easy for me to just go down there for a visit. What else can I do for the 'community' aspect of the essays ? There is a very heavy emphasis.
