Dear all,

I'm looking for "safe" US bschools, doesn't have to be as good as those ivy leagues, but accredited and has good reputation. Several schools on my list are Oklahoma City Uni (OKCU), Terry UGA, University of Florida, Pittsburg, and Notredame. They have one-year option which attract me.

I don't have a lot of money, so I would prefer if those schools were not too expensive and located in the city with considerable cost of living. I also would prefer to choose one-year (accelerated) program (shorter payback period for me )

I’m an international, 18 month working experience after graduation, but a lot of part-time experience during college and involved intensely in social community. Currently I’m working as a junior finance/accounting staff in a medium-sized mining company. Never took GMAT but my simulation hover around 540-660.

My post-MBA plan is looking for decent job in US (doesn’t have to be as big as McKinsey/Merrill Lynch) for 2-3 years and then come back to my country and start my own consulting business.

Looking for honest advice. Thanks in advance.

Frankly speaking you don't seem to know what you want.
Reading your post, this is my observation
Your plans are too general. For example, what is ur idea of decent? what industry do you want to go into? What industry will u cater when u go back to ur country etc etc.

My advice
Think hard on why you need an MBA in the first place. If you are just looking for a decent job in US, there are other ways to go about it. There is no garuantee that an MBA would lead to a job.

When you are through with your assesement, use this forum to find answers to other MBA related questions.

Thanks for your lavish answers, ncprasad, darren1010, jaynayak. I do appreciate it much.

I will finance my MBA 40-50% from family & personal savings, and the rest maybe come from loan, fellowship, scholarship, etc. After getting my MBA, I just want a job in Fortune 500 company (preferably IB/consulting) which pay me enough for living as well as saving. So, what I'm looking for is not just money to recoup my MBA; but relationship/partnership, in-depth knowledge on business practice, and experience. Then, I want to come back to my country and start my own consulting business in strategy.

I want to apply to 4-5 schools in the next intake. To be honest, I put Harvard & Tepper on my 1 and 2. While these 2nd/3rd tier schools (as I mentioned above) will be rest on 3 to 5 and considered as a "safe" schools. I know that my profile is not appealing. Maybe I'm just lucky if I could get admitted to Harvard & Tepper, but for me, going to those 2nd/3rd tier is not too bad.

PS: I'm Malaysian. :)

by the way, I visited Kualar Lumpur 2 years ago. Such a great city. The twin tower is very impressive.
