Hi Hoozan,

I know that your TTP subscription expired; however, do you recall how much of TTP you actually completed?

Apart from co-ordinate geometry and part functions, I guess I was done with everything.

I spent a good 6 months on TTP quant but after a Q42 I shifted to solving OG questions on the club. So now for quant I
1. Revise --> my notes + flash cards + some solved example from TTP
2. Practice --> OG questions from the club.

After doing the above for 2 months I gave 2-3 Princeton Review mocks and got Q42 Q42 (timed) Q47 (Untimed). So I am assuming that I need to work on managing my stress in a timed environment while I still need to bridge my conceptual gaps.

I'm really exhausted at the moment. It's been a long time since I started my GMAT prep and now it's really getting the best of me. :(

Hi Hoozan,

From what you describe, your general math knowledge and skills are probably fine, but the Quant section of the GMAT is NOT a 'math test' - it's a 'critical thinking test' that requires lots of little math steps as you work through it. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) When did you take your 1st Official GMAT and how did you score (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
2) How long have you studied for the GMAT in total? Over the last 2 months, how many hours do you typically study each week?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When is your next Official Test Date?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Rich

Studies:
1. Took my 1st mock in December 2019 and gave my official exam in Jan 2020. Official mock score: 710 (Q47 V40)

Note- this wasn't timed. I was facing network issues that lead to many glitches while solving. So the timer wasn't accurate

2. Studying for almost 2 years. The first 9 months were a rough start. I am a student so I do have a lot of time in the day for my prep. I dedicate around 4-6 hrs.

Note- My capacity to study has greatly reduced because of the lack of clarity and demotivation towards my prep.

3. I have taken a few Princeton review mocks. With a gap of 1 week between each. And scored a 610 (Q42 V31 and 620 (Q42 V34). I did score a 710 once (Q48 V39) but that wasn't timed

Goals:-
1. Score a 720 (Q48 V40) on the GMAT
2. I wish to give my next attempt by end November (my college exams are currently on)
3. Post my GMAT I plan working for 2-3 years so I don't really have a date in mind. But I do have ISB as my dream school.

Note- I do wish to teach GMAT as well. I find the content and the skills required really challenging and highly helpful in developing ones critical thinking. But for now all that matters is to get a score that I beleive I can truly achieve.

Hi Hoozan,

Studying for the GMAT now - far in advance of when you will actually "need" your Score - is a smart choice. A 720 Score Goal is well above the 90th percentile though - so clearly most GMATers never score that high. To earn that type of result, you're going to have to focus on learning and practicing the proper Tactics - and you might end up needing more study time than you have currently planned for.

I have a few follow-up questions:

1) What was your 1st Official GMAT (from January),including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores?
2) How long ago did you take your last practice CAT/mock? Have you used any of the 6 Official CATs from www.mba.com yet?
3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

1. My official score was a Q42 V28. Since then I believe my verbal has improved to a V35 while my quant I am not too sure. I guess I am between a Q42-Q45

2. My last CAT was a Princeton Review. I took it 2 weeks ago. Yes, as mentioned I took one official mock in December, 2019 scoring a 710 (but faced glitches)

3. I am up for 8hrs a day or whatever is required. I just want some clarity and confidence in my prep and my self.

Follow the right materials and don't get to formula-based learning, the conceptual clarity is a must.
You will definitely get more than Q45.
Happy Learning.

And what about your next official practice exam?

Was thinking of taking it 10 days before the attempt. And prior to that take a couple of unofficial mocks

Since your fundamentals are in place I’d advice you to solve a 31 question timed quant test every day . This done can be through a prep site or by simply picking up 31 questions from gmatclub or any other source and solving them within 62 mins . After the test analyse it well and go ahead with verba prep .
Thank you.
Kudos if my advice helps you .
