I am a rising senior who has been on the political science - law school track for three years. I was very unmotivated, hated my classes and professors and therefore have a lackluster track record. however, during my junior year, i developed a keen interest in business, and after some soul searching, have decided to do an MBA. I would like to apply in 3 or 4 years, and so I wanted to ask what you recommend I do to strengthen my profile in the meantime since my record so far has been bleh. Here's a breakdown of my current candidacy:
US citizen but born and raised in Ghana.
3.6+ GPA at Yale
Research and Internship experience in government/international affairs.
Leadership experience organizing large scale conferences on African development.
Things that may go against me:
No quantitative coursework (dropped three math related classes because i was failing)
Scattered coursework without unifying theme (hated each class so tried something new each new semester, but hated that too)
Recommendation letters will come from liberal artsy people who can't quite evaluate me in a business light
No special awards (unmotivated throughout first three years of college. perhaps senior year will be different).
What do you think I should do in my senior year and post-graduation to make me a super strong candidate? My main goal is to work in management consulting, and despite going to an Ivy league school i'm not crazy about prestige (i'll happily pick, say, Darden over HBS if Darden serves my goals better). however my biggest concern is I kind of NEED a full-ride, because i'm from a low-income background. All advice will be much appreciated

Hello! Thanks for your post and I'm glad you're thinking so far ahead!
Let's talk about academics first. Your overall GPA is actually quite good, though I understand your concern about lack of quant courses and the scattered transcript. You should plan to write a brief Optional Essay explaining this. You should also consider taking a few supplemental business courses (like at a local community college) between now and when you apply to demonstrate your interest and ability to manage business courses (Accounting, Stats, etc.). The GMAT will also be an important factor for you so I'd get started on your GMAT prep soon since scores are good for five years and you may want to build in a time buffer to retake if you don't reach your target score initially.
In some respects, you have a bit of a clean slate (or maybe a new slate) once you graduate. When it comes time to apply, b-schools will care much more about your accomplishments, awards, and leadership activities since college. If your goal is to work in consulting, try to find full-time work that allows you to develop the key skills needed in consulting like analysis, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, teamwork, etc. Be on the lookout for good mentors and supervisors who can serve as recommenders once it comes time to apply. You'll want these to be people who know you well and who've seen your recent work, so it's unlikely that someone you know now would be a good choice for a recommender 3-4 years from now (e.g., generally we discourage using college professors).
I think you're smart to be thinking about a range of programs and factors that are important to you beyond just the rankings. You might want to check out two free resources we have online:

I will try my best to get a full-time consulting job, but needless to say, the competition is cut-throat and things don't look too sunny for someone with no experience or quant skills (i applied for several summer internships in consulting and didn't get any offers, so I know i need to strengthen my profile). So I wanted to ask what you thought of this plan; Pursue a Masters in Management immediately after graduating college (one year), use those credentials to get into a good consulting firm (work for two or three years), and then apply for an MBA. Think this might work out?
