Hi,

I am yet to take my GMAT. But prior to taking the test I wanted to get some insight from you all regarding my profile and chances for admission in Booth:

Country of Origin: India, Currently in USA for the past 9 years
Undergrad: B.Tech in Computer Science from WBUT in India with GPA of 3.2. Graduated in 2008
Grad: MS in CAIS from University of Michigan with GPA of 3.2. Graduated in 2010
Work Experience: 9 years in Tech Consulting in USA with experience in roles that wears many hats including project leadership role focusing on on-time deliverable and team management. Have experience in RFPs and Pricing for a project. Have worked with Deloitte and PwC prior to joining a boutique consulting firm. Concentrated industry is Consumer Markets/ Consumer Packaged Goods. Traveled a lot within USA for the last 9 years and gained experience in different culture and food and other interesting aspects. Planning to do an MBA to propel my career into more product strategic role and then entering the entrepreneurship side focusing on business driven solutions in the industry.

Please let me know your thoughts.

thanks

I don't mean to say this in a negative way, but I don't think you'll have an easy time getting into the full-time MBA programs for American business schools. It's obviously not impossible, but going by your profile, I wouldn't rate the chances too high. You might want to look into the European schools who are more receptive to older applicants, especially given your significant WE.

That being said, you may want to look into the EMBA programs as opposed to the full-time MBA if you're set on being in America. Good luck!

thanks for insight. Are you saying that just because I have 9 yrs in tech consulting - MBA schools will discriminate in US? Information sessions suggest otherwise. Would be helpful if you can provide more specific insights.

He is saying because you have 9 years experience you should consider Executive MBA and not MBA. It is a compliment actually.

No I don't think they will discriminate, and that's not what I meant. Given your profile -- and by that I mean ORM (Indian, Comp Sci., Male) combined with the fact that you have significantly higher-than-average WE (you have to keep in mind that you'll probably have more than 10 years WE when finally matriculating) -- schools may favor other candidates ahead of you. That's not to say it's impossible. Of course, you should give it a shot if you believe you have nothing to lose in doing so. This is just my 0.02.

I would think it would since women are underrepresented, but that only speaks to so much. The strength of your candidacy is based on much more than simply your gender.
